This image was taken in the fall of 2004 in Grand Teton National Park. This Black Tail Pond area was formed thanks to beaver dams that were built near the Snake River thirty to forty years ago. The beavers liked the soft wood of the aspens and cottonwoods here. Once they had sufficiently depleated their wood supply, they moved on. The growth of shrubs had every color imaginable in the fall gamut.Once the trees regrow here, the beavers will return and the cycle will continue.
